Barramundi.

Description:

Barramundi are large predators able to adapt to fresh or salt water. They are greenish-bronze along the back, shading to silver along the sides, with white bellies. Young fish often have yellowish pelvic and tail fins. Juveniles have creamy and dark blotches on their bodies.

Habitat:

Barramundi are found in freshwater lagoons, tidal rivers and estuaries from Maryborough north. Adult fish spawn in coastal seas and estuaries.

Notes:

Barramundi living in freshwater impoundments are not considered to be as good eating as when they are obtained from salt water. Barramundi are regarded as one of he best sports fish in North Queensland, and when living in impoundments can grow to 45 kg. Barramundi can be caught by throwing a lure, bait fishing or fly casting.
